Built in 1955, this Ranch style house sufficiently housed a family of four for many years. It was not until the children reached their early teens, coinciding with the expansion of a home based architectural practice that the family decided to undertake this major project of renovations and additions. An office for the Owner's architectural practice was created in the original attached garage area, which necessitated the addition of a new, separate Garage building.  To create a separate entryway for clients, a small, landscaped courtyard was created between the two.

To improve the overall flow and character of the house, the north side of the house, containing the existing kitchen, dining room, and breakfast area, was extended six feet. This simple strategy allowed for a full-sized dining table, a breakfast counter, a larger breakfast/activity area, and most importantly, a bank of large windows to let in natural light.
