university of houston kiva & farish hall renovations
The Kiva in Farish Hall is one of the most utilized meeting rooms on
the University of Houston Central Campus. It was in need of a facelift,
looking much as it did when built in the 1970's. We introduced new
lighting and a new color palate that reflected a more high-end corporate
image than an institutional facility through new wall panels, new
carpet, wall paints, rail caps and new chairs.
upon the success of the Kiva Renovations Project, the University contracted with us to continue the programming and design of main lobbies, elevator lobby, and stair pods from ground through fourth floors that surround the Kiva. The original building is an octagonal plan with 4 similar entrances and lobbies.
Design solution was 2 fold: 1) to define the approach to different spaces through a hierarchy of lobbies and corridors; and 2) to orient the end users by distinctly defining different lobbies and pods through the use of distinct sets of color schemes.
