cypress grill station
A new, ground-up 7,000 SF restaurant in Cypress, Texas, this project is located adjacent to a Harris County heritage park-a collection of City of Cypress historical homes from the late 1800's. A train track runs along the main road and a now demolished old train station full of local history once sat on the other side of the track.
The Owner, a Cypress native, wanted to create a uniquely homegrown family style dining experience that would reflect his ties to the area. Creating an environment reminiscent of the local history and architecture and invoking the nostalgic familiarity of an old train station became the underlying goals guiding the design process.
The main dining room was conceived as a barn-like train depot. Quieter booth seating to either side gives a nod to old train carts. Outdoor patio dining in the back opens up to a beautifully landscaped garden screening the parking lot beyond. The restaurant interior can be opened on nice days to this surrounding garden by way of clear-glazed overhead garage doors. A restrained use of neon lighting to highlight the architecture provides both a modern touch and a means of enhancing the restaurant's visibility from the busy surrounding streets and freeway.
