The objective of the expansion was to create a kids' bedroom suite that would be somewhat private but still providing a close and direct access from the main living areas of the house.  The solution was a second floor addition on top of the existing attached garage.  An open loft in the new addition created an aerie-like sanctuary space that provides views to the wooded bayou behind the house.  An important design consideration was to not only integrate the new with the old, but to use the opportunity to improve the quality and overall look of the original 1960's style house.
